Taking up the challenge to be as eco and sustainable as possible and sharing it with the world.

Compass Hut is unique, eco, self-contained Tiny House accommodation located 10-minutes from Devonport and the Spirit of Tasmania on Tasmania's Central North Coast. Each tiny house has been designed to enrich the traveller's experience during their Tasmanian journey. It is about switching off and disconnecting, but reconnecting with nature and each other. During your stay, we challenge you to participate and learn about passive design, enjoy the garden and re-centre.  Mission statement:

Our Tiny
House Escapes

Each tiny house has a unique character and design.  Barnhaus offers a boutique, minimal foot-print, bold with it's Scandinavian barn-house style; surprising visitors with it's french-inspired interior design. Arc Pavilion oozes eco-luxury. It's organic, timber form like a sculpture in the landscape and hand-crafted interior; boasting an outdoor bath with views and indoor fireplace for romantic nights with a glass of wine at hand.  across the Forthside valley below. Whilst Colonial Blue, a traditional tiny house on wheels, sits nestled in it's own private cottage garden, sharing similar views, but offering a luxury, tiny-house-on-wheels bathroom (including an indoor bathtub).

Compass Hut was born from the desire of creating architecturally unique, sustainable, eco tiny homes. Starting with Barnhaus, and located on our family's organic farm, each tiny home was custom-designed using a series of renewal and sustainable materials. Each tiny home incorporates solar passive design principles for their local climate, and energy efficient materials. Each tiny home also incorporates custom-designed, hybrid, off-grid solar and battery storage systems (a key feature of each tiny house design).

Each tiny home was designed and created by the Bell Sisters (co-founders of Wagonhaus and Compass Hut in 2017/2019); including some furniture hand-crafted in Arc Pavilion and art-work displayed.  Since Compass Hut’s launch, led by our passion for sustainability, Compass Hut has forged its own eco-tourism journey. This has included achieving Ecostar and Sustainable tourism Accreditation, participating in initiatives such as Sustainable House Day and more recently, measuring our carbon footprint - click here to learn more.
