About Barnhaus

Barnhaus is the perfect eco-tiny house, romantic escape. Nestled in its own private garden, with countryside and Tasmanian native bushland views and setting. The architecturally-designed tiny-house-on-wheels is self-contained with self-check-in, making this the perfect tiny-home away from home escape.

Designed by the Bell Sisters, the interior features a cozy but luxurious interior design, complete with a white, glossy ensuite bathroom, country-style kitchenette (see amenities below), out door spaces. A complimentary bottle of wine on arrival, travel info and inspiration provided. The tiny homes also features a 10.4 inch Samsung tablet for guests to use during their stay and free WIFI.

Located in the heart of the Tasting Trail Region, surrounded by attractions, cellar doors and more. Only 15 minutes drive from the coastal city of Devonport and the Spirit of Tasmania, and only 65 minutes drive to Cradle Mountain.
 
Barnhaus has been designed as an off-grid little home-away-from-home, focusing on health & wellness, as a unique accommodation experience, whilst touching the earth lightly.

Our location

Barnhaus is located in the picturesque,
agricultural countryside region of Forth, on the
outskirts of the coastal city of Devonport (10 minutes
drive from Devonport’s CBD); Tasmania’s third-largest city and home of the Spirit of Tasmania vessels and visitor terminal. Arc Pavilion is surrounded by iconic visitor attractions, Tasmanian wildlife experiences, vineyards cellar doors, micro-breweries, art galleries, as well as a range of chocolate, cheese, honey and many more agritourism, producer experiences (check-out the Tasting Trail here). Arc Pavilion is also located only five minutes drive from the Bass Highway, which takes you on a stunning and picturesque North-West coastline drive journey up to Stanley and The Nut, the Tarkine and down to the West Coast region - see our itinerary guide here. 


Our region, with its temperate coastal climate, is home to a broad and diverse range of landscapes. A range of short, day and multi-day walks closeby; notably Cradle Mountain and the start of the Overland Track (60 minute drive from Compass Hut), Mount Roland and the Kentish region, (including Sheffield, 20 minutes drive, and Tasmazia), Narawntapu National Park,  among a range of waterfalls, lookouts, cave tour experiences.

Getting to and from Compass Hut

from mainland Australia

By air

 

Devonport Airport is a short, 20 minute drive to and from Compass Hut, connecting our picturesque, central north coast region to mainland Australia (approximately, a 1 hour and 30 minute flight from Melbourne's domestic and international, Tullamarine Airport). Both Qantas and Rex Airlines fly daily, with car hire available at the airport - click here for more information. 

Alternatively, Launceston Airport is located 78 minutes drive from Compass Hut (112 km's), who regularly have regular, daily Virgin Australia, Qantas and Jetstar flights available, to and from Australia's major capital cities. By sea

 

We are also locate a short, 14 minutes drive from the Devonport Spirit of Tasmania Terminal, for those travelling by sea as a passenger, or bringing your own vehicle onboard the Spirit of Tasmania vessels. The Spirit of Tasmania sails overnight from Devonport in Tasmania to the Geelong Spirit of Tasmania terminal; located in the state of Victoria, Australia, 75 minute drive from the city of Melbourne (75 km's).

Bringing your own car (or hiring a car) is the best way to travel to Barnhaus and explore our region with. For those visiting from mainland Australia, a great option is to bring your own car on-board the Spirit of Tasmania passenger and vehicle ferries. The Devonport Spirit of Tasmania Terminal is a short, 16 minute drive from Compass Hut.

Devonport has two taxi services available, servicing Compass Hut to Devonport (12 km’s from Devonport’s CBD), the Spirit of Tasmania terminal and Devonport Airport.
